"Oil Painting for the Absolute Beginner"

This class is for anyone who would like to learn the basics of painting. I will teach in a slow-paced, structured manner taking the time to make sure each student understands each days teaching of the fundamentals to develop a painting.
There will be an introduction to the various artists' tools that give the students firsthand knowledge of what materials and tools each student would prefer in creating future paintings. We will explore the many different types of brushes, student grade paints to professional quality, palette knives, palettes, easels  varnishes, surface preparation, and materials.
I will also take the time to tackle the fundamentals of creating a painting by learning how to: mix colors, understand values, composition formulas, measure, and explain the usage of brushstrokes, color harmony and structure. Each day will begin with a talk, demonstrations and discussion along with historical reference to artists of the past who are credited with some of the advancement in the understanding of the fundamentals that led to the changes in the art world. Each student will bring photo reference to apply the days lessons.
Most materials will be provided to each student. These include: paints, mineral spirits, brushes, easels, rubber gloves, painting surfaces,  and paper towels.
Not provided:  Pencils and pens, or artist colors unique to your palette.
